Woke up hungover as shit. Went to breakfast was able to eat a little bit. A volunteer came over and said Courtney there is an emergency 3 turtles are entangled in ghost net out front. Nauseous from last night I ran over, jumped in the water, cut them out of the net (which was very difficult with them moving, ended up cutting myself a lot) Everyone had to help bring the turtles in. Apparently Alex was sat in the marine centre with the biggest one (over 70lbs named Olavi) while he waited for a turtle box to be prepped for the turtle. Shai was giving a tour to resort guests and they were very much in the way. I carried in the second heaviest turtle (still over 70 lbs). I was shaking maybe from the adrenaline, maybe from being hungover. I wanted to puke. I had to take the turtles into the lab one by one to assess the wounds. Deep wounds. I cleaned them up, took pictures of the wounds, got them in fresh tanks and that was that for the morning. We carried on with shift shocked at how 2019 slapped us in the face. All of the new turtles except for Heath ate. Hesth had ghost net in her mouth like a choker so it ripped her mouth like the joker. Understandable she didn’t want to eat. We watched a movie before dinner because everyone was still recovering. The movie was adrift and it was very good. It weirdly made me want to go sailing and live on a boat alone which I think is the opposite effect it has on everyone else. That night we had to give fluids to the new turtles and to Rudolph which was again, a nightmare. Turtles have very thick skin so injecting them is seriously no fun. Especially new turtles because they move around and flap a lot. These big mamas are also STRONG AS SHIT. 5+ people have to be in the lab to help hold them down. Talk about draining. Happy new year everyone! Hope you had a better first day of 2019 than I did.
